SPOTTING GUIDE FOR NYLON CARPETS

  1. For water based spots – normal dirt: Apply rubbing alcohol on a white cotton cloth. Dab the spot while using a vibrating motion. Look at your rag, if the spot has begun to transfer, continue this procedure, constantly re-applying the alcohol to clean portions of the cotton towel and repeating until no more dirt/spot transfers. No rinsing is required when this method is used.
  2. For oil based spots – Gray, sauces, etc: Mix 1 tsp. to 1 Tbls. Of Simple Green with a quart of water, and apply to your cotton rag. Repeat the application technique mentioned above for water based spotting. After all the offensive substance is removed, rinse the area by blotting with a clean, wet rag or extraction device.
  3. Animal vomit/feces: Remove all the debris you can. Spot clean with rubbing alcohol as indicated in spotting guide for water based spots. This step will help remove staining as well as help sanitize the affected area. After this is accomplished, make a paste out of Arm & Hammer baking soda, and blot liberally into the area and leave it to dry. This product will do 4 things for you. It will neutralize the acidity of vomit or the alkalinity of feces, thus preventing color etching into the carpet fibers. It will help to further sanitize the affected area. It will get rid of mal-odors. And finally, will draw out all, or most of the stain. When the paste is dry, break it up with a butter knife and vacuum. If any staining is still present, call your professional carpet cleaner.
